crane's yellow dwarf

London: George Routledge & Sons. #76 of Walter Crane’s Toy Books, Shilling Series.

The photographs of the book were taken with a low-end phone, and have not been retouched at all. The colors of the plate illustrations really are that vibrant, after 140+ years!

“The Queen and the Princess were advancing to meet the King, when they saw two large turkey-cocks, drawing a strange-looking box. Behind them came a tall old woman, whose age and decrepitude were no less remarkable than her ugliness.”

Quarto with blue & orange cover, rear cover lists 77 books in the Shilling Toy Books series (this being #76.) Five color plates including centerfold. The color is spectacular on all plates. Covers lightly rubbed. Spine has been professionally repaired with new japanese paper under original cover.  Assumed 1st edition.
