I’ve been working on a long-term project about Oregon history. As it turns out, one of the books I’ve been needing to look at is John Jewitt’s “Narrative of the Adventures and Sufferings, etc.” I’d been able to find a reprint edition which was okay, but which ultimately would not suffice.
Thought about buying a beat up second edition on Alibris for $300 (it being the only copy available online), as the auction records are few & far between, but was never motivated to pull the trigger.
Anyway, I was driving through eastern Oregon to buy some books, and figured I’d stop in a little bookstore I occasionally go to. The guy’s real friendly, we chat for a bit, and the second book I touch is the Jewitt, for a little less than the copy online. Couldn’t believe it! Made my day!
I hear this kind of story all the time at work, so it’s nice to be on the other side of the counter for a change. 🙂
