Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam

Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam.

Presented by Willy Pogany.

New York: Thomas y. Crowell Co., printed at the Ballantyne Press (England)

This is a beautiful production of that classic of wine, women, and Arabia: The Rubaiyat.

Full leather binding, heavily decorated on front cover, giltwork on spine. Full color tipped-in plates by Willy Pogany. He is one of the foremost illustrators of the early 20th century, and is ranked alongside Arthur Rackham, W. Heath Robinson, Kay Nielsen, etc. His work for the Rubaiyat is excellent, and captures the fantastical romance of the poem.

Each page has decorative borders and devices. Large type, reminiscent of calligraphy.

This is a great book for a collector of high points of illustration, fine bindings of classics, or book arts.

Condition notes: minor fading to spine (see photo), very light wear to extremities, owner’s name to first white page. Overall, very good. Color plates are fine.
