Retold in Story Form from J. M. Barrie’s Dramatic Fantasy.
edited by G. D. Drennan
New York: Barse & Hopkins, [ca. 1909]
This is a delightful & early copy of Peter Pan.
As you may know, Peter Pan was first a play, written in 1904, then adapted into novel form by J. M. Barrie in 1911, as PETER AND WENDY. In between those years, the story was adapted by Barrie (such as PETER PAN IN KENSINGTON GARDENS), and others–such as the book we’re offering for sale here.
Not dated, though the British edition of Drennan’s adaptation first appeared in 1909, so this American edition is presumably from the same year.
This features a beautiful colored engraving of Peter Pan, as played by Pauline Chase, based on the original etching of Richard George Mathews.
Red cloth covers with nice Art Nouveau giltwork on the cover. Book is in very good condition overall; spine title is worn off almost completely, and faint water stains to inside of front cover. No writing, owner’s marks, or damage found. Clean & solid binding.
A cute & small book, this is 88 pages long and measures 6-1/2″ high by 4″ wide.
